Snowboard accessories
Snowboarding is a fun, yet expensive pursuit, and in order to promote your safety, performance and comfort on the slopes, there are a number of different snowboard accessories on the market. Some are essential and difficult to ride without, while others are more geared toward comfort and luxury on the mountains.
Some more common accessories that are worth considering are goggles and helmets. Goggles help to protect your eyes from the sun, snow and wind and are advisable given the cold temperatures and high speeds of snowboarding. Various lenses are designed for different light levels. A helmet is important if you’re inexperienced or riding new terrain, particularly when there are trees, cliffs, rocks and other hazards involved.
Some snowboard accessories are less universal and more dependent upon the rider’s specific needs. Backpacks are carried by some riders to store food, extra clothing and other items while riding. Hydration-packs also have a water bladder, for convenient, easy-to-access water throughout the day on the slopes. Backpacks are particularly helpful for backcountry riding, and snowboard-specific packs are designed to strap on a snowboard.
Snowboard bags are necessary if you’ll be traveling with your snowboard, particularly on an airplane.
Many riders like to have music on the slopes; specific headphones, helmets and hats have been designed for comfortable music reception that stays in place while snowboarding. Locks are important to secure your snowboard if you intend to eat lunch or go inside while leaving your board outside. Most resorts have lockers, but these require availability and quarters; having your own lock can be quicker and more convenient.
Other accessories combine function and fashion, including sunglasses and watches. Certain watches are designed specifically for snowboarding and other snow sports and include functions like altimeters, tracking of vertical feet, compasses and clinometers.
